While I’ve had a good handful of life’s curveballs thrown at me recently, I’ve still maintained my gym attendance. Still making it to lift heavy, train some Jiu-Jitsu, and I’ve recently begun training some Judo at a nearby school as well. I have to say, I regret not starting Judo earlier in life as well.

We’ll start with my discovery of how much fun Judo is, and how much I genuinely enjoy it. I’ve… dabbled with Judo stuff and wrestling over the last 13 years that I’ve trained BJJ, but I’ve never really taken a dive into it. And I have to say, it absolutely fascinates me. Finding the similarities, the differences, and really just feeling fresh. Honestly, I have that “White belt passion” again when I’m training Judo and I love that. It’s somewhat of a fresh start, while still being similar.

Anyways, getting into my Strongman stuff, I’ve kept a somewhat similar training block these last couple months, however I have had some slight changes. I’m placing more emphasis on the Squat, as my competition in November has an Axle bar squat event, that I’m really looking forward to. It’s for reps, at a weight that I know can hit for a good solid amount of reps, so I’m looking forward to it. However, these last couple years I haven’t placed as much of an emphasis on the back squat into my training so reintegrating it has made me very, very sore.

My next competition however, coming up soon is a competition with all natural stones. No other implements, just straight stone-lifting. I’ve been very fortunate to get to train with the gentleman who is hosting the competition, and owns all of the stones. I’ve had a blast lifting heavy stones, and have even managed to shoulder his second biggest stone, weighing in at 245lbs. To our knowledge, I am potentially the first person under 200lbs to ever actually shoulder the stone. So I kinda have made my own claim to fame with it.

Ultimately, I’m looking forward to both of these next competitions, and I’m very excited to keep training hard, pushing my body and achieving my goals in strongman.

Here is a, unfortunately low-quality video since it went from cell-phone to cellphone, but, a video of me shouldering the 245lb Dragon’s Head stone:
