In my recent blog that I posted, I announced that I was competing two weekends in a row. I had an absolute blast in doing this, and I learned a lot of valuable lessons that I’m taking forward in my training.
I did have a total of 3 max events between the two competitions. And on all 3, I went for a PR on my 3rd attempt. And I missed all 3 of those PR attempts. Personally though, I always feel like the 3rd attempt is for that. I feel like the point of the third attempt is to go for a PR, and sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t.
I also got to do some really fun events as well. I got to have an Axle Bar Squat for reps, and I had a fun deadlift medley with 4 different implements. I was particularly looking forward to the Squat event, as the Squat is one of my better movements, however in Strongman we don’t have to many Squat events. Because of this, I have also sought out to begin competing in USPC Powerlifting events, in the Squat and Deadlift only divisions. This gives me the opportunity to not let my talent with the Squat to go to waste.
Overall, I am proud of my performance at both competitions, and I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I’ve learned where my sticking points are in certain lifts, and have now been able to apply things to improve in those weaknesses during these next training blocks. I also have planned to continue to strive in my strengths, and perform as well as I can.
Overall I’m looking forward to these next training blocks, incorporating lifting in a deadlift suit to my training, and my next competition in December! I’ll be competing in a grip strength focused, fun, small local competition. I’m looking forward to that, as the events are unique and different.
Here’s a couple videos from my competitions on my YouTube:
