Right now I’m in a very fun training block, and really enjoying training. I’m really taking time to focus on learning how to deadlift in a suit, continuing to grow in the deadlift, the overhead press, and have been squatting consistently even more again. I’m also ensuring that I do some more hypertrophy work as well.
Today I hit a PR on the Axle C&P, at 200 pounds for 5 reps. This was big for me, as pressing in general has always been my weaker movement.
This training block really is fun though. Every other week I deadlift in a suit or in briefs. Every other week alternating to that I’m squatting in wraps as well, which is something I have not done in years. I also have integrated overhead pressing 3x a week into my training block. Basically I’m overhead pressing all 3 days I train. I have a day dedicated to pressing and pressing accessories, as well as hypertrophy work. But I’m also hitting overhead press accessories on both my Squat and Deadlift days, and it’s paying off. I’m also focusing on putting good energy into all the other extras too, Farmers Walks, Sandbag carries/to shoulder, Atlas Stones, Natural stones, etc.
Upcoming next weekend, I have a fun, non-sanctioned grip strength focused strongman competition at a gym in the area. After that, my next competition is in April so I have plenty of time to train hard and grow until then. Then, in June I’m planning on competing in a USPC Powerlifting meet, as they have a Squat and Deadlift only division. I’d love to see if I can go for a state record in Raw with Wraps, then hit a decent deadlift as well.
Overall, I’m looking forward to this roadmap for the next 6 months, growing stronger everyday.
